Last night we hosted an event with Ken Charney, the author of The Bold Vegetarian Chef cookbook. It was at Third Place Books. It's one of the only bookstores I know that has a full demonstration kitchen for cookbook authors to use. Chefs cook recipes from their book, customers get to sample the food, and then decide if they'd like the book. It's pretty brilliant if a store has space (and money) to do it. When not in use, the store runs cooking classes taught by local chefs and culinary instructors.
The event went well and reminded me how creative independent bookstores can get for hosting events.
