Sent out the first AnthemBooks.com email newsletter tonight. Here's the full text. Email me if you want to receive future announcements.
Hi All,
Here’s a summer update of things going on at different bookstore websites in the Northwest. Take a look at what other stores are doing. Let me know if you see something you’d like to do on your store site. (If you’re not with a bookstore I work with, I just thought you’d like to see what these stores are up to.)
GOING LEGIT!
And hey, I’ve got a little news. Because of the support from bookstores, I’ve been able to set up AnthemBooks.com, a new company providing online marketing for independent bookstores. I have a new email address and (soon) a website of my own. The website allows me to do more when I contact authors and publishers on your behalf. More on this when I get time to launch the website!
In the meantime, please send any future email to this address, jay@anthembooks.com.
This fall, I’ll present a session on Bookstore Website Marketing at the PNBA show. I’m using a lot of examples from the work we’re doing, and would love to have some audience participation if you can attend! The tentative time is Friday morning at 9:00 am.
STORE NEWS
Pat Rutledge and her staff at A BOOK FOR ALL SEASONS put on a weeklong book camp for girls. They used “Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants” as the theme. Reading, crafts, swimming, and more. Check out pictures and notes from all five days of this special event….

Jean Auel was part of the Kitsap Reads program, supported by LIBERTY BAY BOOKS and ARMCHAIR BOOKS. Random House included the event on the Jean Auel website with the store names. We let BookSense.com know about it and they posted it on their homepage as the Event Highlight for the week. It’s a great example of setting up Signed Editions for Author Events…

DeDe Teeters at ARMCHAIR BOOKS has really gone after Romance authors to build bridges between author sites and her store, plus a great link with Jasper Fforde’s The Eyre Affair website! Do you know some authors who would link to your site if you had a page devoted to them?

ST. HELENS BOOK SHOP is trying something new, we’re using an Author Interview from BookSense.com on the store website. A great way to promote Orson Scott Card’s new book, Shadow Puppets:

GENERAL NEWS
BookSense.com is looking for stores who want to write some content for the site. We (you and I) write up some reviews about some books and explain why they relate to each other. They’ll post it on the national site and give links to your store site.
Books by a favorite author, from a great display table you did, or maybe some good fall reads, ANYTHING GOES! Email me ideas and let’s put something together! For inspiration, check out this Experts Corner from VILLAGE BOOKS’ Mitchell Moore…

They're also continuing the Lord of the Rings promotion for the second movie. Sign up deadline was today, but might as well get your name in there:

Hope you’re having a good summer!

ps. Anyone read CHINA MIEVILLE's The Scar or Perdido Street Station? I heard him read the other night at Third Place Books and was amazed. Possible Orwell or Huxley in the making.
