Tonight was a quiet night at the bookstore. I like these because I can catch up on shelving the fiction section, maybe even have some time to read PW and the NYT book section. I'd say most of our customer requests come from reviews read in the NYT, Seattle Times or heard on NPR. It happens so often that I have both of their websites memorized and ready to break out if I don't know the title.
Today's hardest requests were for a book by Bertrand Russell on China and something by a poet who wrote about 9/11 and was heard on NPR. I found the first, struck out on the second. The poet might be named Payner or Paynor? Any ideas would be appreciated.
One of our longtime employees is leaving on Saturday. I'm very bummed because he's a great person and bookseller. It's fun to know people who get enthusiastic about their favorite writers. Another big perk of working in a bookstore.
On the upside, another friend has an interview with our store tomorrow. I hope she gets the spot. (Just in case, email me if you're a Seattle bookstore looking to hire, she's going to be a great bookseller for somebody!)
