Civilized Reaction: Green Apple Donating $$$ from Savage Nation to ACLU
One bookstore is doing its part for the war effort, in a sense. Green
Apple Books in San Francisco, Calif., is donating all profits from the
sales of right-wing radio host Michael Savage's book The Savage
Nation: Saving America from the Liberal Assault on Our Borders,
Language and Culture (WND Books) to the American Civil Liberties
Union.
In a prepared statement from the store, one of the owners wrote: "A
store like Green Apple has an important place in the community as a
disseminator of knowledge and opinion across the political spectrum,
so we are loathe to censor any book. However, Savage's views are so
extreme that we didn't feel comfortable profiting from the sale of his
book. He has said that were he put in charge of the country, one of
his first acts would be to round up the leaders of the ACLU and charge
them with sedition, so it seemed appropriate for us to give them a
helping hand."
