I'm fascinated by stories on how the Internet is creating communication that was unimaginable twenty years ago. Here's one on an Iraqi blogger "Salam Pax." The man, apparently an Iraqi translator living in Baghdad, posts news and observations on life in Baghdad during the bombing and the current post-war climate. This is a fascinating way to get information about what life is like there now. You have to assume the news is correct, and that he really is living there, because he does much to hide his identity.
Slate.com article on the blog good for more information on the story.
The Salam Pax Blog
This blog shouldn't diverge too far from bookselling issues. I'm not trying to be Pat Holt, but every once in awhile I will post a story I think has implications for the emerging power of web communication. In defense, Salam Pax refers to a childhood reading of Orwell's 1984 that got him to "look at the world I live in a different way."
