PW Daily listed a few indies with quotes about sales over the Thanksgiving weekend. Here are their websites:
Collected Works Bookstore, Santa Fe, NM : http://www.collectedworksbookstore.com/
Interesting notes:
They have a Wet Monday Book Club, a name that begs for clarification. Here's the website's description: "The group’s focus will be the discussion each month of a book related to New Mexico’s water issues with the goal of developing an elegant question stimulated by the book. The group will be literary and non-political, with access to authors and pertinent citizens related to the book under discussion." Not my first guess.
and cat pictures.
Books & Company, Oconomoc, WI:
http://www.booksco.com
Interesting Notes:
There's not much store info on this site. They're close to Madison, and I hear their name often in bookselling newsletters. I wish there were some store pictures, history, anything to differentiate the store.
Tatnuck Bookseller, Worcester, MA: http://www.tatnuck.com
Interesting Notes:
Tatnuck is one of the most underrated bookstores in the country. These folks are doing great things. In five to ten years people should talk about this store the way Tattered Cover and Powell's get mentioned today.
The business is combination bookstore, gift store, and restaurant. Owner Larry Abramoff is a serious bookman who transformed an industrial manufacturing building into his large flagship store (one of five locations - the others are more outlets for different college bookstores and an outlet location).
Great events. Upcoming authors: Nicholas Basbanes, Anita Shreve.
Staff Picks Larry likes the book about the MIT students who ripped off Vegas.
