Bookstore notes

Tonight at the bookstore I finished up my shift boxing up a larger than usual return to California-Princeton. The Who was cranked up on the radio in the backroom, my goofy head was bobbing to "Magic Bus," and it all almost felt like a typical bookseller day. Except none of the days have been typical since Jan 1, when our owner announced she'd signed a deal with a used bookstore to move into our space. This return was all of our books from these publishers. And it's just one of the many returns we've been doing this week to clear out all of our inventory. Our store is going to close down, everyone's going to move on, and our city is left with a small void.

Here are the relevant articles to give you the scoop:

Third Article (get the feeling that the local paper liked the store? Me too.)

At some point I may explore what happened in more detail, including what happened and what lessons could be learned, but for now I'm going to leave the issue alone here. It's sad that the owners have put in 13 years building a bookstore and now it's going to take two months to empty it and let something new come in.
