BOOKSELLER DAVID SCHWARTZ DIES AT 65

Just last week in our announcement that David Schwartz had been named PW Bookseller of the Year, we mentioned that this year he had waged a "so far successful" battle against lung cancer. Unfortunately, in recent weeks, the cancer had reappeared. Schwartz died on Monday.
In an emotional ceremony at BEA, Mary McCarthy, the stores’ general manager, received the award on David Schwartz’s behalf. More than 80 of the stores’ employees made the trip down from Milwaukee to take part in the ceremony.
The store and family will hold a visitation period from 4:30-6:00 p.m. this coming Friday at the Schwartz bookstore in Shorewood, followed by a memorial service at 6 p.m. The family suggests donations to Community Shares and the American Booksellers Foundation for Free Expression.
