Just Books sent me their latest email newsletter (an excellent example of email marketing). This is the store that used to be run by legendary bookseller Warren Cassell and now owned by Jenny Lawton. They've built their reputation on engaging events that go beyond the traditional author-at-podium. A typical Just Books event might be a breakfast with Jack Welch and an audience of Fortune 500 executives, a booked conference room at a local hotel to see Al Gore, or one of these upcoming events:
Alexander McCall Smith is such a popular author from his No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency series that we decided to launch his new series in style on September 30 at the Stamford Westin Hotel ($30) to hear Sandy (as Mr. Smith is more commonly called) tell us about his new book, and new series, The Sunday Philosophy Club (Pantheon, $19.95). Reserve early, we expect this to be a popular event!
Holly Hobbie , author of the much loved Toot & Puddle series , will be at Just Books, Too on October 1 at 3:15 PM to sign copies of the brand new Toot & Puddle The New Friend (Little Brown, $16.95). To add a little more excitement to the afternoon - as if we needed more! - Holly's son Nathaniel Hobbie will be signing copies of his new book Priscilla and the Pink Planet (Little Brown,$15.99)! We had so much fun with Holly last year -- what an afternoon!
Mark Teague will be dropping in to visit a school and to sign copies of his most recent Detective LaRue: Letters from the Investigation (Scholastic, $15.95) on October 4 . Be sure to reserve your very own inscribed and signed copy!
