Eminem Gets Political
There's an Eminem video for his song "Mosh" circulating wildly around the internet right now. I'll join the wave of blogs and websites referencing this because I imagine some of the book industry folk reading this might not download Eminem videos regularly. Mosh is a fascinating video, and could become another key story about the internet influencing the momentum of elections. See the video for yourself. Eminem has made some amazing career and personal turns in the last few years, notably with his role in 8 Mile. With all the talk this Fall about Bob Dylan and the "spokesman for his generation" title, I think Eminem is developing along the spokesman model for a distinct segment of American youth. Yes, it's unusual for me to talk about Eminem in a blog about independent bookstores. Part of it is I'm sinking deeper into election obsession. But I've also developed a listening habit of Eminem since his CD "The Eminem Show." It's refreshing to see rap artists bringing politics and issues back into the music. Hopefully hip-hop is moving away from songs about diamond rings and SUVs. |
