Unbridled Books - Quality New Fiction
Five years ago I flirted with an internship at MacMurray and Beck in Denver. Then it was a small publishing house putting out mostly fiction from unknown writers. I ended up going to the East Coast instead, and it all worked out fine.
That fall, M&B put out Susan Vreeland's "Girl in Hyacinth Blue." It became one of the first Book Sense 76 picks, took off like a rocket, and soon the house of MacMurray and Beck was well-known to everyone. It continued the success with Patricia Henley's "Hummingbird House", a National Book Award finalist. The three key people behind the success of MacMurray and Beck went on to start Bluehen Books as an imprint at Penguin. One of the more notable books from Bluehen was Perma Red by Debra Magpie Earling. I never got the full story on what happened between Bluehen and Penguin, but it didn't work out. Now the editors Frank Ramey and Greg Michalson and their marketing guru Caitlin Hamilton have founded UNBRIDLED BOOKS to continue publishing high quality fiction from new writers. Fall 04 List:
