Kristie Helms and Writer's Digest

The March 2005 issue of Writer's Digest has an article by Tim Bete about online book tours being "the next big thing in author publicity."

Bete explains how author Kristie Helms created her own virtual tour:
Helms emailed blog administrators and offered to send them advance copies of her book. Many accepted and invited Helms to discuss Dish It Up, Baby on their blogs. Some asked Helms to answer a set of questions and then posted her answers. Other blog leaders posted their thoughts about her book, followed by an online discussion. The Anthem Book Blog, a site dedicated to independent booksellers, even allowed Helms to take over the blog for a day.
Aw shucks, Kristie, thanks for slipping us in there. "Dedicated to Independent Booksellers." Yep, that about sums up what we're trying to be here.

Here's the original post from Kristie with links to her favorite local bookstores and book-related sites. (And congrats to Kristie on the Lambda nomination for Best Lesbian Debut Fiction! Great start to the career!!)

The Writer's Digest article, and the subsequent conversations I'm having with authors, really has me thinking about the connections between authors and booksellers. I'm amazed by the struggles all authors, but especially first-time and self-published authors, have getting their books out into the world. Being published really is just part of the beginning.
